9A Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

The opportunity I had chosen was drone surveillance.

Who:  The people I have come to identify to not needing the opportunity were business who were located around other business for example, those in a shopping mall or in a small plaza. Also people located outside of town.

What: businesses located in a shopping mall or plaza do not see the need for the drone surveillance due to the fact that they may be accused by other business of invading personal space and also because they are surrounded by other businesses who also have cameras meaning that the cameras at other businesses may be able to reach an angle the others cameras cannot reach. People who live outside of town see no need for the drone surveillance because they feel like they are safer living out of town where crime is more likely to happen and because they are unwilling to pay a large amount of money for a surveillance drone.

Why: The difference between the people needing drone surveillance and those not needing surveillance are primarily their location whether it’s outside of town or being in town but surrounded by other businesses, the possibility or upsetting someone due to invasion of privacy and also people just feeling safe enough living outside of town away from the crime.

My findings were not what I expected I believed that everyone would find a need for the opportunity but I didn’t think that many businesses located together in a plaza or shopping mall relied on one another for security and I also did not think an invasion of privacy would have been an issue for the businesses. When interviewing those people outside of town I thought they may need it the most due to the police station being in town and not being able to respond fast enough but I was surprised to find that they actually felt safer outside of town due to crime being less likely to happen.

Inside the boundary                                                 Outside the Boundary

Who:
Large business that have many stand-alone locations, apartment complexes, condominiums.
Who:
Those located outside of town, businesses who are located in plazas or a shopping mall.
What the need is :
The need is to ensure the safety of employees, customers, those who feel they need extra security because they live in a higher class.

What the need is not:
The opportunity is not needed for those located outside of town because they feel safer living away from town thus being away from the crimes and do not see the need to spend a large amount of money for the drone surveillance and also because businesses are have the possibility of being accused of invading businesses privacy.
Why the need exists:
The need exists because of home invasions, businesses being robbed, and dangerous people.
Alt. explanations:
Drone surveillance seemed unnecessary when talking to people located outside of town because they believe crime is lower and less likely to happen , when interviewing the businesses located in a shopping mall or a plaza they were afraid of possibly being accused of invading another businesses privacy and thought they’re businesses were safe enough with the many cameras that were located at their own business as well as the other businesses

  1. I think this a really cool idea and would greatly benefit the security of a lot of businesses. Although it would be expensive, it could be a good investment for bigger companies with a large amount of valuable inventory. This would also make homeowners feel very safe, which would make people want to buy it for the peace of mind. You do bring up a good point that businesses located in malls or shopping plazas might not want to make the investment, but I think the idea is worth pursuing for the companies that might be interested.

  2. I still think this idea is awesome. I understand the invasion of privacy issue and I see how easily it could be over looked, so making sure it isn't an issue before using them is good. I also think there are a lot more markets and that the few people you asked shut the idea down because of their location and how safe they feel. If you went to an area with a higher crime rate, I think this idea would be more appealing!
