4 A Forming an Opportunity
1. I do believe that an opportunity does exist, the need for internet in the Providence area.
2. To be more specific I believe that high speed internet is a need. Secondly, I expect that this is a need for everyone especially students. This need comes from an advanced and growing world where high speed internet is becoming a prominent need especially in the Providence area. The people trying to meet this need now have to settle with one of the following: either doing without, having one or more hotspots to connect to or unreliable satellite internet. I am about 85% sure that this is a major need.
3A. Kim Beasley
4A. The nature of the need for her is high speed internet so that her grand daughter can complete tasks and assignments given to her in school. Therefore, she needs it to help her 9 yr old granddaughter. Recently in the past few months she has experienced the need for high speed internet when teachers announced the beginning of online work. She only has a need for high speed internet sometimes because her granddaughter spends every other week with her mother. She has actually thought getting high speed internet for many years but last month actually confirmed they need it for online applications, school projects, and other school work. She is currently looking for options in her area which are limited to satellite companies like Hughes Net, or hot spots from places like AT&T and Verizon. Ms. Kim is not satisfied she would like a hard line connection to make internet faster and more reliable.
3B. Travis Croft
4.B After my conversation with Mr. Travis, I have come to find out he has no need for high speed internet or any kind of internet at all. Even though Mr. Travis is aware of internet he has never experienced the need for it , he is 83 years old and currently has a family member addressing anything that may need to done online. Mr. Travis is currently very satisfied, because he grew up without internet he has never experienced the need for it.
3C. Selena Chavarria
4C. Ms. Selena's needs for high speed internet include completing school work and for entertainment purposes like streaming Netflix. She has the need for high speed internet all the time for example, at work, for her school work when she gets home and for watching movies and shows on Netflix, she has even had a need for it while she was living with her parents. Selena first became aware of the need when she became independent and moved out of her parents house she was unaware of the need before then due to the fact that her parents were paying for the high speed internet. she uses other sources like hotspots, restaurants and friends to overcome the need. Selena is not satisfied at all and would rather be in the comfort of her home.
5. I learned a lot , things like the fluctuating needs from person to person or why they have the needs. Certain people like Kim and Selena have a moderate to high need for this product while others like Mr. Travis have no need. What surprised me the most is that not everyone has the need for high speed internet and for those that do the limited options they may have.
7. If I had to put my original opportunity still left into a percentage I would say around 65 - 70% because I still had more than half with the need for this opportunity. I still feel the opportunity is strong, perhaps not as strong as I believed in the beginning of this assignment. I definitely think entrepreneurs should adhere and adapt to the customer feed back in these opportunities , after all the customers are the reason that entrepreneurs exist , from unmet customer needs . so taking feed back to improve especially if it is coming from the majority of the customers can be a good thing.

Great read, thanks for sharing. Even though you dropped your opportunity percentage down, I feel like it should still be at the original 85%. I say this because the one person who did not agree with you is an elderly man. As younger people grow older they will already be accustomed to the internet so I believe the demand is there.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Derek that your opportunity percentage shouldn't drop because of one outlier. A majority of other people in all areas from students to full time workers, regardless of age, are in a world which is going through a technological era in which everyone is using the internet. You went more in depth with your descriptions and I will have to do that more next time. I simply got the essential information and not much background information.

I truly agree with you that there is a need of high speed internet especially in this era where a lot of services and products require the internet to effectively function.I also think you stick with the 85% or even higher cause I believe in the future everything will require the internet to function.
