5A Identifying Local Opportunities

1. Making a difference in South Africa

  • This is an informative session to educate and collect support for entrepreneurs in South Africa around Cape town. This session is open to all students regardless of the college path. The goal is to find students who are willing to help who are strong, determined, and dedicated to helping the businesses. 

  • There is a history of poorly equipped and educated entrepreneurs that could use help in South Africa.

  • The South African business people are the ones in need of help. They are highly disadvantaged compared to the resources we have in the U.S.

2. Hiring: Lake Wauburg Lifeguard 


  • RecSports is in search of a new lifeguard in the Spring. They are on the waterfront and are taking applications now.

  • A certified lifeguard is needed this Spring to help with safety and seeing that the rules are followed. The applicants must be CPR certified and be certified by the American Red Cross Lifeguarding.

  • RecSports and anyone using Wauburg Lake are who have the problem. RecSports needs an employee and lake users need someone to ensure their safety.

3. GatorSavers: $5 CPR and Blood Drive 

  • An event being held on campus to help save lives in the future. Be CPR certified for only $5 and donate blood to help save more lives. For students and faculty alike at the Reitz Union Grand Ballroom.

  • People who have been injured or are sick both now and in the future can be helped by this event, to save lives. 

  • This is to help the community as a whole for those CPR certified can help saves lives anywhere the lake, on the scene of a motor vehicle accident, or even in a restaurant. Those donating blood can help those at almost any medical center where blood is needed for patients. 

4. UF in Sorrento Information Session


  • A chance for all UF students to study abroad and earn class credits. Learn about the European culture and policies from Sorrento Italy. Improve your knowledge internationally and expand your career choices.

  • There may not be enough students to make this possible that's why there are multiple dates and times to get informed and help students learn the ways of other cultures for better workers in the future.

5. UF Program for Students with Autism/Asperger's Syndrome


  • This is a program for UF students with disorders such as Asperger's or Autism. This program is to help form those with disorders and give them the skills to have better lives, better careers, and better social skills.

  • Students with these disorders sometimes may not acquire the skills they need to live a fulfilling life.

  • Any UF student with these disabilities/disorders such as Asperger's or Autism has this problem.

    We did this project differently. I like the way you did it more. When I read the instructions I interpreted them as having to have all 5 articles come back to the same exact situation. This made my blog post difficult to create. Your opportunities are much better than mine.

    You hit every point that you needed to according to the instructions and made the descriptions other points brief so that it was not a long and boring read, but a direct and informational read (Which I appreciate very much!). I formatted mine similar to the way you did, but next time I might make my points a little shorter like you did here!

1. For my three people I chose Brett Gill a game warden with FWC, Carl Beiling a farmer with lots of pasture field, and UCSO Officer John Riggs. 2. In Mr. Gill's case what matters most for him is quality, he needs something to take photos/videos in harsh environments well enough to prove a crime is being committed as well as proper evidence for a conviction. For Mr. Beiling his main concern is the price, because he is elderly and the price of cattle fluctuates therefore he prefers to keep his costs low. 29A Venture Concept

Opportunity The opportunity I chose is drone surveillance. Drone surveillance can be used to survey land, keep watch over farms when owners are not available, and assuring businesses that their companies are safe by monitoring the building to watch for any criminal activity. I feel that those who have the need most are business owners, farmers and police but the opportunity is not limited to only these. The nature of the need is security, due to the high number of crime rates and the large amount of land owned by most farmers the opportunity was created. I would say that customers are satisfying this need already by having security systems installed in their homes, businesses, and farms. However unlike most security systems today the drone surveillance is not limited in movement like other cameras, they are able capture an aerial view. 8A Solving the Problem

1        My selected problem would be limited resources available like cameras with limited movement to monitor an area. 2      I would fix this problem by creating drone surveillance. First I would build a more advanced drone than the typical recreational drone, this would require some engineering to make the drones more damage resistant and stable during flight. Then I would equip the drones with high quality high definition cameras with night vision technology for night surveillance, along with the ability to zoom in and zoom out while taking photos. This would give the opportunity to identify crimes, license plates, and suspects. From here I could sell the drones to certified government agencies, as for the private customers or agencies not willing to but the surveillance drones, I could fix the problem by contracting team of highly skilled professionals with a lot of flying and drone using skills as a service to survey for them and use the drones instead of their own man pow
